Rex Tillerson is a former Secretary of State and former ExxonMobil chief executive who entered the Trump administration with heavy corporate credentials and global business experience. He led the State Department during Trump’s first term before being fired in March 2018. The promise was sober executive competence; the reality was a frostbitten relationship with Trump, foreign policy clashes, and that “moron” cloud hanging over the whole arrangement like a giant blinking exit sign.
