Got canned in Trump’s post-election tantrum once loyalty mattered more than having an actual defense secretary.
Mark Esper served as United States Secretary of Defense under President Donald Trump, overseeing the U.S. military and Department of Defense. A former Army officer and defense official, he stepped into the role during a turbulent period in both domestic and global politics. Which eventually turned into a loyalty test he was never going to pass, especially once Trump started prioritizing personal allegiance over institutional stability. Esper spent much of his tenure trying to navigate that line, and then got dropped the second it stopped working. On Yeeted or Seated, Esper is the classic example of how long “qualified” lasts when the job suddenly becomes something else entirely.
